Update: Friday July 2, 2010

Today has been another good day. Dad is sitting next to me in a chair once again, watching the Uruguay/Ghana soccer game. He commented, "Who knew learning to sit up in a chair could be such a challenge?!" He has eaten two more good meals (and is actually getting to choose what he wants to eat rather than being handed a plate).

After breakfast, we were able to set up a Skype chat with our husbands at home so that dad could see his "babies," aka his dogs Lucy and Charlie. They were confused at hearing his voice but dad loved getting to see their sweet faces.

A nutritionist came by this morning to begin teaching mom and dad more about a diabetic diet...looks like there are some changes in order around the Gilbert household. He has also been released by his pulmonologist because his lungs are looking good! One more doctor down (he was released by the kidney doctor yesterday afternoon).

There is still the strong possibility of surgery on his foot in the near future but we are waiting for the ok from the cardiologist. We will certainly keep you posted.

Continue to pray for strength to return to his body, particularly for the speedy return of his muscle memory and basic skills. It is also important that he continue to rest, which is most difficult in a hospital with folks coming in all the time to poke and give medicine!

  3. So glad to read this. It is clear that Tim's sense of humor is intact. I must say, though, that I hope that picture of Lucy and Charlie is not from the Skype chat. If it is, Fort Worth is having some strange weather for July! Keep on keeping on, Tim! Bonnie C.

  4. It was great to see Tim much improved today and to see the "puppies". His computer and cell phone were on the bed so he's connected back to everything. Hope and pray that improvement continues quickly.

  6. Great news on lungs and kidneys, Tim. We know you and Karen will try hard to adjust to the new diabetic diet. The toughest part is adjusting your shopping habits and making bad choices in restaurants. It can be done though with great satisfaction when you get good readings. The struggle is worth it! We continue to be amazed at the remarkable progress you are making and thank God for every passing day. You are loved!
